    Description

Philip V gold Cob 4 Escudos 1713 MXo-J MS65 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM55.1, Cal-2028, Oro Macuquino-109. 13.43gm. Thoroughly and simply scintillating, both as a type but particularly for this date, of which only a handful can be considered of equal or greater fineness. Produced with such clarity and sharpness atypically encountered with most Cob issues, the date, assayer, and cross remain fully readable and while only the crowned arms are partially obscured, all of which project boldly towards the viewer on a bright gold flan as if just struck. NGC's population report mentions just 9 examples of all Mexico City-mined 4 Escudos, both Cob and milled, certifying Gem Mint State, with only two others for this date, while a single selection occupies the lofty MS66 spot.
