Description

Philip V gold Cob 8 Escudos 1715 Mo-J MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM57.2, Cal-109. 31mm/27g. An elusive date, not as rare as it once was since the recovery of some the 1715 Plate Fleet's lost wreckage, but still very scarce since most of the recovered dates have been in the 1711-1714 range. A definite recovery from the wreck, this Mint State example retains soft luster on both sides with faint reddish accents. Ideally centered, all major design elements including the mintmark, assayer initial, denomination, four-digit date and reverse cross are entirely on flan, with just a touch of strike doubling seen. Rarely equalled in this quality.
