Description

Republic 8 Reales 1865 Ca-FP AU50 NGC, Chihuahua mint, KM377.2, DP-Ca39 ("Extremely Rare"). Attractive for the assigned grade with slight high-point wear defining the grade, strong underlying luster and sharply struck for this very rare date. One of only two dates of the Chihuahua series struck under Emperor Maximilian and showing the "F. P." initials of assayer Francisco Potts, and traditionally considered among the rarities of that series. Better struck than the AU55 NGC of the Sonora Cap collection recently sold by us (Heritage Auctions 1/2015, lot 30324 for $4,000) and clearly among the finer of this key date seen by the cataloguer.
