Description

Republic gold 5 Pesos 1882 Cn-D MS63 NGC, Culiacan mint, KM412.2, Fr-142. Well struck, with brilliant gold luster and only a few tiny marks. A superior example of the grade. An exceedingly rare issue, with a reported mintage of only 174 pieces. Only two examples have been certified, and these are the only two pieces that we have seen, or that we can trace. We have been fortunate to handle both. The first (an NGC MS65) was sold in our August 2014 ANA sale, and brought $16,450. The two pieces are obviously from the same die and the presently offered piece is very close in condition to the first coin. A true Balance Scale rarity, and perhaps, the only opportunity one might have after having missed our ANA coin.
