(1848) New York Volunteers Medal, MS61
Presented to First Lieutenant Israel Miller

(1848) New York Regiment of Volunteers in Mexico, MS61 NGC. Silver. Presented to First Lieutenant Israel Miller. By Charles Cushing Wright. 52 mm. With the original mount and ring. This is an extremely rare medal, and while not a U.S. Mint Medal, this is an important historical medal from the Mexican-American War. Stack's-Bowers sold a slightly inferior and polished example in their February 2015 Americana Sale for $3,525. This example is entirely original with blue and iridescent toning over its silver-gray surfaces.
