Third San Francisco Mint Silver Assay Ingot--#978
San Francisco Mint Silver Assay Ingot--#978. A very scarce item that is seldom offered. The obverse shows the mint stamp that states MINT OF THE UNITED STATES AT SAN FRANCISCO with the central device of an eagle with shield. Beneath the shield in the open field is the serial number 978 / 999.5 / FINE in three lines. On the back of the bar is the weight 5.92/OZS. No date of casting is noted, but most of these are believed to have been purchased from the Mint in the 1940s or 1950s.(#661928)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 661928)
