Description

Silver San Francisco Mint Assay Ingot--#975

San Francisco Mint Silver Assay Ingot. # 975--5.94 OZS. The obverse of the bar shows the imprint of the Mint of the United States at San Francisco with an eagle imprint at the top. The eagle faces left, and has a small shield covering his chest. The right claw holds the olive branch for peace, and the left holds three arrows. In the lower part of the shield there was a small gas bubble which will further serve to identify this rare ingot. Below the seal of the Mint is the number 975 / 999.5 / FINE in three lines. The back of the bar states 5.94 / OZS in two lines. Each number in the weight is hand punched, and thus somewhat uneven. These bars do not show a date they were cast, but it was likely in the 1940s or 1950s. (#661925)
