Description

Thorne Mining Company Silver Ingot. The logo at the bar at the top depicts a balance scale and the legend THORNE MINING AND REFINING CO. ARIZONA. Below the stamp the bar reads: MONETARY VALUE/ 3 DOLS 56 CTS/ CONTAINS 2.74 OZS TROY/ GOLD .000 FINE/ SILVER .9996 / SERIAL NO. 297. The reverse and sides of the bar are blank. The authenticity of the Thorne Mining silver ingots has been questioned by John M. Kleeberg, but a number of them have appeared in Bowers and Merena, Superior, and Fred Holabird auctions. New Netherlands advertised an example (serial #235) in the October 1958 issue of The Numismatist.
