1996-W G$5 Smithsonian Gold Five Dollar MS70 PCGS. An immaculate and fully struck caramel-gold representative. Some numismatists believe that a ten dollar gold piece would have been more appropriate for the Smithsonian program, since James Smithson's generous bequeath to the United States was used in part to coin 1838 eagles. Only 9,068 pieces were struck with an Uncirculated finish. Population: 27 in 70 (6/07).(Registry values: N2998)
