Nicholas I gold Proof "Laureate Head" 100 Perpera 1910 PR55 NGC, Vienna mint, KM13, Fr-2. Mintage: 501 inclusive of business strikes and Proofs. Variety with Nicholas facing left, wearing laurel wreath. Struck in celebration of Nicholas's golden jubilee, having ruled Montenegro quite successfully as prince since 1860, enacting military, administrative, and educational reforms, and greatly increasing the prosperity of the small Balkan kingdom. The utilization of the laurel wreath of this portrait style was likely an indication of his assumption of the title of king. With only minor evidence of honest wear to the high points defining the grade, the recesses of the legends remain well protected, exuding reflectivity synonymous with Proof issues. Regardless of the technical quality, this offering should entice spirited bidding.
