Impressive 1878 7/5TF Strong MS65 Dollar
Finer Than Any PCGS Has Certified as VAM-40
1878 7/8TF $1 Strong MS65 PCGS. Strong VAM-40 7/5. Five
underfeathers show on this VAM-40 variety, attributed by the bold
bottom berry on the branch held in the eagle's right (left facing)
claw (photo on page 151 of the Comprehensive Catalog and
Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars, Fourth Edition). This
Gem "Strong" example displays bright luster radiating from untoned
surfaces, and a well executed strike impart sharp definition to the
design elements, including the hair over Liberty's ear and the
eagle's breast feathers. A few minor luster grazes prevent an even
higher grade. The present lot is higher graded than any of the 19
examples certified as VAM-40 by PCGS.From The Arnold & Harriet Collection, Part Two.
