Description
1878 7 Tailfeathers Morgan, Reverse of 1879, MS66
Tied for Finest Known
1878 7TF $1 Reverse of 1879 MS66 NGC. The 1878 7
Tailfeathers Morgan dollar with the Slanted Arrow Feather Reverse
of 1879 was clearly struck in the minority as compared to the
Parallel Arrow Feather Reverse of 1878, even if precise mintage
figures are unknown; Bowers estimates a ratio of less than 5:1 in
his series Guide Book. This is a vibrant, frosty textured
Gem whose originally toned surfaces reveal delicate golden-orange,
magenta, and thalo-blue shadings gaining intensity toward the
peripheral areas. There are no ill-defined features, and both sides
are free of all but a few light grazes. NGC and PCGS combined have
graded only 22 other examples at this level, with none finer
(12/12).Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 7/2004), lot 7010.
