Description

1878 Morgan Dollar, MS66+
First-Year, 8 Tail Feathers Variety

1878 8TF $1 Diagonal In 8, VAM-17, MS66+ NGC. According to the 2026 Guide Book, the Philadelphia Mint struck a small mintage of 749,500 business-strike Morgan dollars with the 8 Tail Feathers reverse in 1878, before switching over to the 7 Tail Feathers motif later in the year. The issue is definitely scarce at the MS66 grade level, and finer coins are virtually unobtainable. This Plus-graded Premium Gem exhibits sharply detailed design elements and impeccably preserved lustrous surfaces, with outstanding eye appeal. Census: 54 in 66 (5 in 66+, 6 in 66?), 1 finer (12/25).
