Description

1878-CC Morgan Dollar, MS66
First-Year Carson City Issue

1878-CC $1 MS66 PCGS. VAM-9. This is a brilliant and boldly struck Premium Gem with full cartwheel luster and well-preserved surfaces. As such, it makes an outstanding representative of the popular first-year Carson City Morgan dollar issue. There is no sign of the die doubling that accompanies many dollar varieties from the year, although the lower wreath is distinguished by a series of lengthy raised die lines seen on VAM-9, which also has a right-leaning CC mintmark. PCGS reports just six numerically finer examples (6/18).
Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 7/2006), lot 2716, where it brought $4,312.50.
From The East End Collection. (Registry values: P4, N2998)
