Description

1878-S Morgan Dollar, MS66+
Branch Mint First-Year Piece, CAC

1878-S $1 MS66+ PCGS. CAC. The 1878 introduction of the Morgan dollar into the U.S. economy included the 9.774 million pieces struck in San Francisco. The 1878-S has survived well and is plentiful through MS66, although Plus-graded Premium Gems become challenging and finer examples are scarce. The richly frosted devices of this Premium Gem are boldly struck and contrast brilliantly against the semireflective fields to earn the Plus-grade designation. Minor marks account for the grade, none are significant.(Registry values: P2, N991)
