Description
1878-S Morgan Dollar, MS66+ CAC
Granite Toning
1878-S $1 MS66+ PCGS. CAC. The 1878-S issue had a prolific
mintage of around 9.8 million coins and as such has retained an
abundant survivorship of Mint State examples, though it grows
scarce at Premium Gem. This example's obverse displays attractive
cerulean-blue and orchid-pink toning that resembles a more colorful
form of the igneous rock that built the Granite Lady. The strike is
pristine with only some minor abrasions in the fields but are
negligible to the appeal. PCGS has only seen 95 examples
numerically finer, and CAC reports just 20 finer (4/26).Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 2/2014), lot 4089.
