VAM-3 Capped Die
1879-CC $1 Capped Die MS63 PCGS. VAM-3. A Top 100 Variety.
Light caramel-gold toning visits this lustrous and refreshingly
unabraded key date Carson City dollar. In the 1970s, collectors
little understood the "Capped Die" VAM, but today it is known to be
a Medium over Small CC, with the Small CC nearly chipped away by an
assiduous mint worker. Certified in an old green label
holder.(Registry values: P6, N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 7088, GSID# 7451)
