Description

Desirable 1879-CC 'Capped Die' Dollar, MS64

1879-CC $1 Capped Die MS64 PCGS. VAM-3. A Top 100 Variety. This variety was caused by a medium-sized mintmark punched over the remnants of a smaller one. Morgan dollar collectors consider this to be one of the most important varieties in the series, and it is listed in the Guide Book. The present coin shows just a hint of red in the periphery, with the majority of the surfaces silver-gray. A few minor abrasions define the grade. Eye-catching satiny luster complements the boldly struck design elements. PCGS has certified only eight examples finer (7/09).
