Description

1879-CC Morgan Dollar, MS64
VAM-3, Capped Die
A Top 100 Variety

1879-CC $1 Capped Die, VAM-3, MS64 PCGS. A Top 100 Variety. VAM-3 has a doubled date and there is rough raised metal above and within the mintmark, which shows a large CC over a small one. The G in GOD is filled, indicating a late die state. Lustrous and brilliant, this CC-mint example has a better strike than average for the issue with only a slight amount of weakness in the obverse center above Liberty's ear. Scattered abrasions are present across the surfaces of both sides, preventing a higher grade.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2003), lot 7792.
