Description

Magnificent 1879-CC Morgan Dollar, MS63 Prooflike

1879-CC $1 MS63 Prooflike NGC. Normal Mintmark. In A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, Bowers (2005) writes that "the 1879-CC is the first key or rare variety in the Morgan dollar series and is the second rarest (after 1889-CC) of all Carson City Morgans." The present piece is nearly brilliant and has a prominent retained lamination from the rim to the O in ONE. A small patch of verdigris surrounds the lamination. The fields are highly reflective and show moderate contrast against the frosted devices. A minimally marked and crisply struck representative. (Registry values: P7, N2998)
