Description

Noteworthy 1879-CC Silver Dollar MS64

1879-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. Q. David Bowers (2006) estimates that hundreds of thousands of the 756,000-piece 1879-CC Morgan dollar were melted under the 1918 Pittman Act. He further adds: "The 1879-CC is the rarest of the early (1878-1885) Carson City Morgan dollar issues. ... In any grade, the 1879-CC is highly desired, and stands second only to the 1889-CC in terms of rarity among Carson City issues." This near-Gem displays bright luster with just a whisper of tan-gray on the central devices. The design elements are well defined, including impeccable definition in the hair over Liberty's ear and on the breast feathers. A few delicate facial marks define the grade.
