Description

Wonderful 1879-CC Dollar, MS65

1879-CC $1 MS65 NGC. David Bowers, in his Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United Sates, states that: "After closing of the Carson City Mint, quantities of 1879-CC dollars were shipped in two directions for storage: westward to vaults in the San Francisco Mint, and eastward to Washington, D.C. In 1942-1943, several bags of 1879-CC dollars were paid out at face value in San Francisco. Apparently, the quantity was never large at that location.
The '79-CC offered in this lot displays frosty motifs that sit in mild contrast to partially prooflike fields. A well executed strike brings crisp definition to the design features, adding immensely to the coin's overall eye appeal. Both faces are color free, and were it not for some minuscule obverse marks, this coin would have graded at an even higher level. Census: 40 in 65, 0 finer (6/07).
