Description

Scarce 1879-CC Gem Dollar

1879-CC $1 MS65 PCGS. Normal CC. The 1879-CC Morgan dollar is plentiful in Extremely Fine through the lower levels of Mint State. Near-Gems are available with a bit of searching, and MS65 pieces are legitimately scarce. PCGS and NGC have graded a mere three specimens finer--all Premium Gems.
The fields of this lovely Gem display slightly prooflike characteristics, establishing mild contrast with the devices. A well executed strike leaves strong definition on the design features, including a good amount of detail in the hair over Liberty's ear and on the eagle's breast feathers. The only toning visible is a sliver of light gold at the left obverse margin. Nicely preserved surfaces are devoid of significant contacts. Population: 85 in 65, 2 finer (4/09).(Registry values: P7, N4719)
