Description
1879-O Morgan, MS65
Bold, Deep Mirror Prooflike Dollar
None Certified in Higher Grades
1879-O $1 MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike NGC. The New Orleans
Mint was certainly capable of producing well-struck, attractive
dollars such as this Deep Mirror Prooflike example, but apparently
not consistently because full strikes are a rarity and most O-Mint
coins show signs of rough handling. The occasional Deep Mirror
Prooflike coin is always quite a find, let alone locating one in
Gem condition. This brightly reflective, richly contrasted example displays exceptional deep mirrors with a surprisingly full strike on the thickly frosted devices. Luminescent-gold toning rides the rims and creeps into the margins to accentuate the brilliant-silver centers. PCGS and NGC have each certified only three examples as Gem Deep Mirror Prooflike with none higher. Census: 3 in 65 Deep Mirror Prooflike, 0 finer (3/14).
