Description
Incredible 1879-S Morgan, MS68
1879-S $1 MS68 NGC. This completely brilliant, untoned coin at first glance appears to be a proof, the surfaces are so pristine. Careful perusal with a high-power loupe reveals only three faint reeding marks, easily missed, in the left obverse field before Liberty's face. These are the only observable abrasions on the entire coin. Frosty luster covers both sides in a heavy layer, with a couple of small shiny areas on the eagle's breast and wings that did not fully strike up, representing the deepest recesses of the die. The bold strike reveals details on Liberty's hair that go unseen on lesser coins. Unimprovable quality: neither service has graded a single coin of this issue finer (10/09).(Registry values: P1, N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 253X, PCGS# 7092, GSID# 7456)
