1880/79-CC $1 Reverse of 1878, VAM-4, MS64+ Deep Mirror
Prooflike PCGS. A Top 100 Variety. The 79 is prominently seen
under the 80, the 1 has a die chip at the top right of the shaft,
and the first 8 has vertical polishing marks inside the loops. The
parallel arrow fletching with the bottom arrow facing downward
identifies the Reverse of 1878. This spectacular Morgan is sharply
struck on frosty design elements that contrast boldly with the
deeply reflective fields. Surface marks are scattered and define
the grade but an impressive cartwheel effect produces outstanding
eye appeal and earns the Plus designation. PCGS reports only 52
Deep Mirror Prooflike pieces, of which only four are graded finer
than this near-Gem example (8/25).Ex: Legend Internet Auction (Legend, 5/2020), lot 235.
