Description

1880-CC Dollar, MS66 Deep Prooflike
Solitary NGC-Certified Example

1880-CC $1 MS66 Deep Prooflike NGC. Although 591,000 pieces were struck, nearly 100,000 1880-CC coins were rejected as not meeting legal standards, resulting in a net mintage of 495,000 pieces. Most examples grade between MS62 and MS65. While MS66 pieces survive, only a small number of those Premium Gems qualify for the Deep Prooflike designation as seen on this NGC-graded example. Brilliant surfaces are well-mirrored and the raised devices display are thickly frosted for outstanding contrast. Only a bit of faint chatter in the left obverse field exists, while Liberty's cheek and neck are smooth and frost-white. Magnification reveals faint roller marks at the cheek and ear. Excellent eye appeal attends this MS66 DPL beauty. Census: 1 in 66 Deep Prooflike, 0 finer (1/25).(Registry values: P4, N4719)
