Description

Richly Frosted, Gem Quality 1880-CC Morgan From the GSA Sales

1880-CC $1 MS66 PCGS. Ex: GSA. Reverse of 1879. This coin is one of the 131,529 1880-CC Morgan Dollars dispersed by the General Services Administration starting in 1972. It is also an exceptionally well preserved representative of this low mintage (591,000 pieces, 96,000 coins of which were melted) Silver Dollar from the Carson City Mint. One might assume that, being a low mintage CC-mint Morgan, the 1880-CC always displays sharp striking definition. Nothing could be farther from the truth, and the present Gem is noteworthy for the razor sharp detail that characterizes all devices. The luster is full and thickly frosted, and both sides are untoned save for a few whispers of golden-honey iridescence. A beautiful coin.
