Description
Rare Gem 1880-O Morgan Dollar
With Cartwheel Luster
1880-O $1 MS65 PCGS Secure. The 1880-O Morgan dollar issue,
along with several other O-mints such as the 1886-O and 1896-O, is
one that is only somewhat scarce in the lower Mint State levels of
MS60 to MS62, yet very rare at the Gem level. This is due to a
number of difficulties in one or more important criteria--strike,
surfaces, luster, eye appeal--that keep most of the survivors from
the MS65 grade. This Gem specimen is the rare exception, with
flowing cartwheel luster over frosty, silver-white, relatively
unabraded surfaces. The strike is excellent, even though showing
minor softness over the ear, and the eye appeal is grand.
