Description

Lustrous Premium Gem 1881-O Dollar

1881-O $1 MS66 PCGS. Several die cracks can be seen on each side of this Morgan dollar, providing evidence of the extensive service of individual dies at the New Orleans Mint. The rarity of high quality New Orleans Mint dollars is directly related to the use and overuse of individual dies. Many dies were spaced slightly too far apart in the press, creating weak strikes, and were also used beyond their reasonable limit of productivity. This pristine Premium Gem is rather sharply detailed and possesses frosty and highly lustrous silver surfaces with a trace of gold toning, especially on the obverse. Population: 11 in 66, 0 finer (2/07).
