Description

Immaculate 1881-S Morgan Dollar, MS68

1881-S $1 MS68 NGC. The 1878-S through 1882-S Morgan dollars are the epitome of high-quality silver dollar production. Even so, the MS68 level is about as good as it gets, a plateau that precious few survivors of those large mintages ever attain. The present MS68 piece is one of 180-plus so certified at NGC, but there are none finer (6/10). A crescent of rose-lilac patina covers part of the obverse, while the remainder of that side and most of the reverse are silver-white, with a slight ring of rose on the reverse. The strike is as impeccable as the subsequent surface preservation.(Registry values: P1, N1793)
