Exquisite 1882-S Dollar, MS68
1882-S $1 MS68 NGC. The 1882-S is one of the most plentiful early Morgan dollars in Mint State, where tens of thousands have been seen by NGC and PCGS through MS66. Even Superb Gems are not that difficult to locate. The lofty grade of MS68 presents a challenge, however. The essentially untoned reverse of this piece gives way to vivid multicolored toning over most of the obverse. Exquisite definition is seen on the design elements, and lustrous surfaces are immaculately preserved.
