Description

1883-S Morgan Dollar, MS64+
Lustrous and Brilliant, CAC
Scarcely Seen Finer

1883-S $1 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. The 1883-S mintage of 6.25 million Morgans was heavily circulated throughout the West and not well-saved. Treasury releases in the 1960s did not include any from the issue, and while available through MS64, finer examples are scarce. This lively Plus-graded Choice example is brilliant with frosty luster, and the cartwheel effect is exceptional. The strike is soft over the ear and on the eagle's breast, but marks are light and not bothersome. PCGS shows only 29 numerically finer pieces (3/26).(Registry values: P7, N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 254K, PCGS# 7148, Greysheet# 7522)
