Description

1886 Silver Dollar, CAC-Approved MS68
Pristine and Brilliant

1886 $1 MS68 PCGS. CAC. The 1886 is among the most plentiful Morgan dollars from the Philadelphia Mint, although it becomes conditionally rare as fine as MS68. Several dozen MS68 coins are listed on the PCGS and NGC population reports, and we have seen a few dozen appearances of such coins in our auctions. However, we have never handled an MS68 coin with CAC endorsement before the present piece. This is one of just eight MS68 coins with CAC endorsement (10/25).

Frosty, radiant cartwheel luster adorns brilliant, pristine surfaces, complemented by sharply struck design elements. The eye appeal rivals that of many early 1880s San Francisco issues, which is significant for a Philadelphia Mint product that would ordinarily have slightly less vibrant luster than a San Francisco coin.(Registry values: P1, N2998)
