Premium Gem 1887-O Morgan Silver Dollar

1887-O $1 MS66 PCGS. Brilliant and sharply struck with frosty silver luster and no trace of toning. The strike of this example is far finer than usually seen for the '87-O Morgan dollar. In A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, Dave Bowers elaborates: "The striking of the 1887-O is usually average or below average, sometimes quite poor. Sharp pieces do exist but searching is needed to find them. At the New Orleans Mint during this era many dies were spaced too far apart, perhaps facilitating the coining process, but resulting in pieces that hardly deserve numismatic prizes." Here then, is a prize-worthy piece with exceptional details throughout the design on both sides. In addition to those certified as MS66, PCGS has graded just one MS66 PL and one MS66 DMPL. Population: 8 in 66, 0 finer (2/07).
