Description
Deep Mirror Prooflike Superb Gem
1888 Morgan Dollar, Ex: Binion
1888 $1 MS67 Deep Mirror Prooflike NGC. Ex: Binion
Collection. This razor-sharp Superb Gem has flashy fields and only
a hint of golden patina. Exceptionally devoid of marks, especially
on the all-important cheek. The Binion pedigree is interesting.
Gangster Benny Binion opened the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas in
1951, and it was inherited by his son, Ted Binion, who was murdered
by the man he hired to build an underground vault for his silver
dollar hoard. The 1888 is plentiful in Uncirculated condition, but
is extremely rare at the MS67 level with deeply mirrored fields. In
fact, NGC and PCGS combined have graded only three such pieces with
none finer (9/09).(Registry values: P2, N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2555, PCGS# 97183, GSID# 7682)
