Description
Fully Struck 1889-CC Dollar, MS62
1889-CC $1 MS62 NGC. This piece might fill a void in a nice Morgan dollar collection, occupying an important place as it does between the many 1889-CCs available in circulated grades and the very few coins available in the higher Mint State grades. The price difference between an MS62, an MS63, and an MS64 amounts to many thousands of dollars.Due to the low mintage and the utilization of several obverse/reverse die pairs used in their production, many Mint State survivors show prooflikeness to some degree. The present piece is no exception, showing semiprooflike surfaces, as often found. The piece is mostly brilliant, although there is an outline of russet around the devices on each side. The piece is fully struck, but a couple of shallow luster grazes on the cheek of Liberty limit an even finer grade. This is a coin that bears serious consideration for a top-notch assemblage of Morgan dollars.(Registry values: P9, N4719)
