Description

1889-CC Morgan Dollar, MS62
Thoroughly Frosty

1889-CC $1 MS62 PCGS. VAM-5. Ex: Desert Find. This piece is among the frosty coins in the Desert Find group, lacking the distinct field reflectivity of the VAM-2 pieces, and rightfully so since VAM-5 is a late state variety. A vibrant cartwheel effect rolls throughout each side, complementing a bold strike on the devices. Faint grazes over Liberty's cheek and the adjacent field define the MS62 grade but leave the eye appeal unusually high. Moreover, CAC has not yet seen this piece for review. On the reverse, a shallow reed mark above the eagle's head is all that is notable.

VAM-5 is the second die variety among the Desert Find coins. A crack threads through the date, and on the reverse a heavier crack runs through ONE and the adjacent star. Eventually, the latter cracks connects to DOLLAR, but here it stops short. The reverse die shows moderate die rust in the eagle's feathers.(Registry values: P9, N4719)
