Description

Notable 1889-CC Morgan Dollar, MS62

1889-CC $1 MS62 PCGS. An outstanding example of the ultimate Carson City Morgan dollar issue. This lovely piece exhibits subtle gold and lilac toning on the obverse, with fully brilliant silver luster on the reverse. Mint State examples, including two in the present sale, appear on the market from time to time, but they are among the most elusive issues of the series. Dave Bowers estimates that between 6,000 and 8,000 survive, although we believe that is optimistic. Perhaps 2,000 to 3,000 actually exist, mostly hovering around the MS60 grade level.(Registry values: P9, N4719)
