1891-S $1 MS65+ Prooflike PCGS. CAC....
Description
1891-S Morgan Dollar, MS65+ Prooflike
A Conditionally Rare Example, CAC
1891-S $1 MS65+ Prooflike PCGS. CAC. In his 1993 Silver
Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States, A Complete
Encyclopedia, Dave Bowers noted that the Redfield Hoard
contained a significant number of prooflike 1891-S dollars. He
added: "The enormous number of prooflike 1891-S dollars in this
hoard reduced the relative prooflike rarity of this date. However
in fully prooflike condition and without spotting, the 1891-S is
still a rare coin." The current offering represents a lovely
example with fully struck devices and pleasingly preserved
surfaces. It is almost entirely free of the bothersome spots that
Bowers noted, and, in addition to being conditionally rare, it is a
highly attractive piece overall. This Plus-grade Gem has only 10
finer Prooflike pieces at PCGS (8/25).Ex: San Francisco Signature (Heritage, 3/2014), lot 10857.(Registry values: P5, N1793)
