Impressive 1893-CC Near-Gem Dollar

1893-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. We present in this lot an exceptional near-Gem 1893-CC dollar. This piece displays marvelous prooflike surfaces that reveal just a few minute contact marks and luster grazes that barely preclude full Gem classification. In this regard, David Bowers (2005) writes: "Mint State 1893-CC dollars are well known for being extensively bagmarked, some actually appearing quite abused. Accordingly, the majority of Mint State pieces are in lower MS grades. A piece MS63 or finer, with minimum bagmarks, is a numismatic find and is very special." Save for the usual softness in the centers, the design elements are quite well struck. Housed in a green-label holder. This piece exhibits the highest grade that most collectors will encounter, and is also among the best technical quality and aesthetic appeal.
