1893-CC Dollar, Bright and Frosty MS65
Exemplary Final-Year Semikey
Nearly Unseen Any Finer

1893-CC $1 MS65 NGC. The return of the anti-silver Democrat Grover Cleveland to the White House in the presidential election of 1892 sounded the death knell of coinage operations at the Carson City Mint. The last of the facility's Morgan dollars, a total of 677,000 pieces, fell from the presses in 1893. Although quantities of 1893-CC dollars emerged from government vaults from the 1920s through the late 1950s, their numbers were far fewer than those of many of the CC-mint issues from the early 1880s. A date that was essentially absent from the Treasury Department releases of the 1960s and the later General Services Administration sales, the 1893-CC is now widely recognized as one of the scarcer Morgan dollars from the Nevada branch mint.

The majority of extant 1893-CC dollars are extensively abraded and grade no finer than MS63. On the positive side, if one were able to locate a high-grade (MS64 or finer) representative, it would almost certainly display rich, coruscant mint frost. Sharp striking quality, however, is not a guarantee for this issue. In addition to mostly full definition, this Gem is praiseworthy for an uncommon lack of distracting abrasions. In fact, the number of blemishes is few, and there is not a single area of bothersome incompleteness of detail. Untoned, and possessed of memorable eye appeal. One of the finest certified 1893-CC Morgans, this coin shares the MS65 grade level with only seven other examples at NGC and 14 PCGS. Each service reports one finer submission (12/17).
