Description

1893-O Morgan Dollar, MS61
Low-Mintage New Orleans Issue

1893-O $1 MS61 NGC. The New Orleans Mint struck a remarkably small mintage of 300,000 Morgan dollars in 1893, as the Panic of 1893 led to widespread economic chaos and the repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act. The1893-O was not well represented in the Treasury releases of the 1960s, further reducing the supply of high-quality examples for eager collectors. Accordingly, the 1893-O is the second-rarest Morgan dollar from the famous New Orleans Mint today. This impressive MS61 specimen exhibits well-detailed design elements, with just a touch of the usual softness on the hair above the ear. The lustrous surfaces are lightly marked for the grade.(Registry values: P8, N1793)
