Description

Elusive Near-Gem 1893-O Morgan Dollar

1893-O $1 MS64 NGC. The small mintage of 300,000 coins for this issue was occasioned by the August 1893 repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. This example shows just a glint of gold over primarily silver-white surfaces. The typical O-mint strike weakness shows on the centers of each side, but abrasions are minor and scattered, while accounting for the grade. An elusive issue so fine, and even more difficult in Gem grade. Census: 30 in 64, 3 finer (2/10).
