Exceptional 1893-O Morgan Dollar, MS64

1893-O $1 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Reading down the list of annual mintage numbers for New Orleans silver dollars, one sees multiple millions of coins produced every year until 1893. Just 300,000 Morgans were minted at New Orleans in 1893. Along with low quantity, there is also an issue of quality. Q. David Bowers (2005) notes that it is a challenge to find an 1893-O dollar without bagmarks, adding humorously that "the easy way out is to buy a certified coin and forget it." The present coin, however, answers that challenge without compromise. Except for a few small abrasions behind Liberty's eye, the surfaces of this coin are exceptionally clean. There is virtually no toning to obscure the strong, as-new luster, and though minor softness of strike in the centers is apparent, the remaining details are solid. This is a wonderful coin for the type or Morgan collector. PCGS has certified only seven pieces finer (8/08).(Registry values: P8, N4719)
