Description

1893-S Morgan Dollar, AU50
Conditionally Scarce

1893-S $1 AU50 PCGS. VAM-2. The variety is attributable by a die crack that runs through the top of STATES. The 1893-S is the key issue of the series and is a difficult acquisition in any grade for collectors. Q. David Bowers estimates that as little as 12,000 coins survive though, the majority of which are seen in worn grades. This coin displays lunar-silver luster with some minute grime in the recesses of IN GOD WE TRUST and the dentils. There are some minor abrasions that run across the coin with one through Liberty's neck and below her chin. The strike is largely strong, though the eagle's breast feathers are flat as expected for the issue. Among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins (#41 in 6th edition).
