Description

Eye-Appealing AU50 1893-S Silver Dollar

1893-S $1 AU50 PCGS. Go to any midsize coin show and survey the condition of the 1893-S Morgan dollars that will undoubtedly be on display--such is the issue's popularity. They will range anywhere from uncertified low-grade examples in 2x2's of questionable authenticity to midrange certified examples, usually in Very Good, Fine, and Very Fine grades. A nice certified XF40 at such a show will be a rarity (and likely to trade quickly). Anything finer is seldom found. The present AU specimen is a super example in that it shows much of the detail of a Mint State coin at a far more reasonable price. The eye-appealing original surfaces are silver-gray with glints of pinkish-gold patina around the peripheries. And while light high-point rub is as expected for the grade, there are no singular marks on either side, and the strike is well-executed. Note that most of the original detail remains on Liberty's hair and the eagle's breast and wings. Expect the bidding to be enthusiastic.
