Description

Unsurpassed Gem Mint State 1893 Morgan Silver Dollar

1893 $1 MS66 PCGS. This is one of the most difficult dates to find in Gem or higher grades, and this coin is far and away finer than virtually all other known specimens of this date and mint. Note the blazing luster and strong strike, a combination which in and of itself may not warrant attention, but combined with the outstanding quality of the surfaces and you have a great condition rarity worthy of the finest collection. Most of the uncirculated examples of this date spent nearly a decade jostling around in canvas mint bags and are frankly somewhat the worse for it. Not so with this coin, as the surfaces remain extremely clean for any Morgan dollar, especially so for this elusive date. Liberty's cheek is undiminished by scrapes and scuffs, let along the usual barrage of nicks that sink so many hopeful coins from a coveted Gem grade, and the surrounding fields show only a couple of shallow ticks. The reverse quality is perfectly matched, with scattered shallow scuffs in the fields none of which warrant attention. This particular coin is identifiable by a minor nick in the middle of the top loop of the 3 in the date. The combined NGC and PCGS population reports show 6 coins graded this high with none finer in any mint state category.(#7220) (Registry values: P7, N4719)
