1893-S Silver Dollar, XF45
Collector-Grade Example

1893-S $1 XF45 PCGS. The nation enveloped by the Panic of 1893 saw a mandated reduction of the nation's silver coinage that naturally effected the 1893-S Morgan dollar, which saw a lowly mintage of around a 100,000 coins. This low mintage was further exacerbated in 1918 when the Pittman Act saw a plethora of silver dollars melted for recoinage. The issue has since become a sought-after date and with no significant hoards found within Treasury releases, it is an immensely difficult issue to acquire. This 1893-S dollar is deeply toned with olive-gray and light brown patina resting over lighter golden undertones. The strike is as expected with ample detailing, but some softness within the hair and the feathers. Among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins (#41 in 6th edition).
