Description

Scarce 1895-O Dollar, MS61

1895-O $1 MS61 NGC. The NGC/PCGS population figures indicate that 1895-O dollars are available in circulated grades, but are not easily acquired in Mint State. In a February 15, 2005 Numismatic News article entitled "1895-O Morgan Dollar Scarce in High Grades" by Paul Green, the author sates: "There was not likely to be much saving of 1895-O Morgan dollars, since few collectors were assembling sets by date and mintmark--that would take about 20 more years. By then, an 1895 was likely to have circulated heavily."
Wisps of golden-tan and gray patina take up residence over each side of the MS61 coin offered in the present lot, and a better-than-average strike sharpens the design features, save for softness in the hair at Liberty's ear. Only slight interruption in the luster flow is noted on the lightly marked surfaces. All in all, a rather pleasing specimen for the grade. Census: 35 in 61, 43 finer (8/07).(Registry values: P9, N4719)
